Programming Creativity

It's a funny thing how I used to try to program bottom-up, thinking somehow the result would be more secure, solid, and flexible. Lately I've been throwing shit together in a top-down approach. A clear model is slower to resolve and doesn't look like what I initially envisioned. Yet the process of refining it creates a much better code base than I would have been able to achieve "coding in isolation" as it were. The common sense retrospect is utterly obvious, but iterating a broken product into a pristine one yields helpful pressure and a much better solution.
